Scouting America and Communities Work Hand in Hand

Scouting America is deeply rooted in the idea of serving others and helping communities.

Scouts participate in service projects to help communities.  This activity teaches life skills, encourages civic involvement and creates a win-win situation for all.  From September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024, Twin Valley Council Scouters had 30,534 hours of service.  Non-profit Leadership Council estimates the value of an hour of volunteer service as $36.31.  This is over $1.1 million dollars of benefit to the communities served within Twin Valley Council.  This was a remarkable undertaking.

But Scouting America is so much more.  Our youth are our future.  We are making our youth “Prepared For Life”.

Twin Valley Council serves over 880 youth and 400 adult leaders in 15 counties in South-Central Minnesota.  We served over 1,000 additional youth in a new Learning for Life program in 2024.  We operate 3 camps in support of a quality Scouting program.  We provide support to units such as adult leader training, program planning, youth and volunteer recruiting.  And we offer supplemental programs such as summer camps, day camps, camp-o-rees, etc.

             

Highlights of 2024

  • New Learning for Life programs in Austin, Mankato, Fairmont, New Ulm, and Sleepy Eye serving over 1,000 youth.
  • Summer STEM Camp serving 95 non-Scouting youth at Jack McGowan’s Farm in partnership with the Mankato YMCA, YWCA, and the Greater Mankato Rotary Club.
  • Year of Service – 30,534 hours of service from September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024.
  • 689 youth and 442 adults served during the 2024 summer camping season including OA Conclave, Summer STEM Camp, Scout Night with the MoonDogs, Northwoods Adventure Camp, Scouts BSA Summer Camp, Cub Scout Resident Camp, Day Camp, and Weird Science Camp.
  • New Weird Science Camp in 2024 with 247 youth and 160 adult participants.  Scouts did STEM activities including making and shooting rockets.  Every new youth who joined received their handbook and could attend this camp at no charge.
  • 391 youth and 220 adults participated in our Winter Klondike, Spring Camp-o-ree, Fall Camp-o-ree, Cub Scout Shooting Sports days, and Cub Scout winter event.  123 youth and 58 adults participated in our “Clue/Jeopardy” popcorn training and kickoff.  
  • 230 new youth have joined Scouting in 2024 compared to 169 in 2023 and 219 in 2022.  
  • Almost 350 merit badges were earned at Camp Cuyuna Summer Camp and throughout the year.  In addition, Scouts took part in 125 afternoon adventures.
  • 100% of our adult leaders are youth protection trained.

     

We Need You

Scouting America is a non-profit organization.  We relay on the generosity of others to make our program work and be successful.  We rely on the generosity of others to help our youth be “Prepared for Life”.

Below are a list of community events Twin Valley Council will be hosting.  We are asking you to be part of them.  Build a car, enjoy a dinner, shoot a gun, sponsor a team, buy a table.  Your donation will be used to “Prepare for Life” a youth.  And you will have a fabulous time!
